Elijah Craig Toasted Rye is a Kentucky rye from Heaven Hill Distillery in Bardstown, in a 75cl bottle. It begins as fully matured Elijah Craig Straight Rye, which is then returned to new oak barrels made in partnership with Independent Stave Company.
The barrels have a high-temperature toasting cap that embeds phenols in the wood. This layers crème brûlée, chocolate and a little smoke over the Kentucky rye spice.
The nose brings toasted oak, crème brûlée, roasted almonds and hazelnuts. The palate is creamy, with milk chocolate and peppery rye, and the finish carries baking spices and a wisp of smoke.
