A Kentucky straight rye whiskey from Heaven Hill, bottled at 47% ABV in a 750ml bottle. It starts as fully matured Elijah Craig Straight Rye, made from 51% rye, 35% corn and 14% malted barley.
The whiskey is then re-entered at barrel proof into a second new oak barrel that has been custom toasted rather than charred. The toasting takes nearly an hour, followed by a capping step that raises the temperature and adds a layer of smoke.
The nose shows toasted oak, crème brûlée, roasted nuts and praline. The palate is creamy, with milk chocolate, ginger, clove, black pepper and a little woodsmoke. The finish is long, with mint, clove and gentle warmth.
