Mark XXIV is a single blended rum from Foursquare Rum Distillery in Barbados, distilled in 2011 and aged for 12 years in first, second and third fill ex-bourbon barrels. It belongs to the Exceptional Cask Selection, a series of personal maturation experiments released only when the distillery judges them to be of exceptional quality.
Everything happens on the island, from distilling to bottling, and the tropical climate speeds up maturation. It carries no added colour, sugar or additives and is not filtered. Bottled at 60% ABV.
The nose offers apricot, toffee and coconut, with spice and walnut. The palate is built on tropical fruit, with dark chocolate, prune, vanilla ice cream and furniture polish. The finish is long and Oloroso-like, with treacle, tobacco and mahogany.
