Probitas is a white rum and the first direct collaboration between distilleries on two different Caribbean islands: Foursquare Rum Distillery in Saint Philip, Barbados, and Hampden Estate in Trelawny, Jamaica. The blend was crafted by Master Distiller and Blender Richard Seale. Translated from Latin, Probitas means honesty, and the rum is produced without added sugar, flavouring or colour, adhering to the proposed Barbados Rum Geographical Indication standards. It was originally created for the Swedish market under the name Veritas. The blend combines a two-year tropically aged Foursquare pot still rum, an unaged Foursquare twin-column Coffey still rum, and an unaged Hampden Estate pot still rum produced under Hampden's OWH low-ester marque.
Tasting Notes
Cascading aromas of tropical fruit and baking spice, highlighting plantain, mascarpone and strawberry; creamy with custard and vanilla, citrus and fresh tropical fruit.
Uncategorically robust and luscious, showing grassy, underripe mango, coconut oil and marzipan with black pepper, allspice and grilled pineapple on the finish; fully textured and oily, with molasses and kola nut, marshmallow, banana and guava.
Grilled pineapple, with fresh sugar cane, vanilla bean and ripe banana up front developing into creamy custard, coconut, citrus zest and a subtle grassy quality.
