This is the 24th release in Foursquare's Exceptional Cask Selection series, a 12-year-old Barbados rum distilled in 2011 and bottled at cask strength of 60% vol.
It is a single blended rum, combining pot still and twin column Coffey still distillates made from molasses. It was distilled, aged, blended and bottled on site at the distillery, matured in ex-bourbon casks, and selected by Richard Seale. No sugar, colouring or flavouring has been added.
The nose opens with caramelised grapefruit, dark cocoa, butterscotch, clove and allspice, moving to sandalwood, brine, ripe pineapple, banana, apricot and plum. The palate is big and unctuous, with black tea, citrus peel, baking spice and molasses. The finish is dry and lingering, with tropical fruit, dark caramel and a little oak.
