Glenfiddich – 40 Year Old Cumulative Time (75cl, 44.3%)

This is a 40-year-old Speyside single malt from Glenfiddich, bottled at 44.3% ABV in a 750ml bottle. It is made using remnant vatting: the Malt Master carries over a portion of one finished batch and marries it with casks selected for the next release. The whisky starts with 100% malted barley and water from the Robbie Dhu spring, and is twice distilled in copper pot stills. The nose is concentrated dried fruit, with dates, figs and black cherries, then espresso, leather, wood smoke and baking spices. The palate brings raisins, sultanas, stewed apples, bitter chocolate and dried oak. The finish is very long, with dark chocolate, faint peat smoke and butterscotch.
