Ha'penny Original is an Irish blend of malt and grain whiskey at 40%, in a 70cl bottle. The malt component matured in sherry and bourbon casks, while the grain whiskeys, one made from maize and one from wheat, were both aged in first-fill bourbon casks. It has no added colour.
The brand comes from the Pearse Lyons Distillery, which opened in 2017 in the former St James' Church in Dublin's Liberties. Its name refers to the Ha'penny Bridge over the Liffey.
The nose has light honey, green apple and apricot, with grassy and pine notes. The palate is silky, with citrus, mint, candied ginger and cocoa. Vanilla and spicy wood remain in the finish.
