Hakushu 12 is a Japanese single malt matured for 12 years in bourbon casks, bottled at 43% in a 70cl bottle. It is honey-sweet and lightly smoky.
Hakushu Distillery was built in 1973 on Mount Kaikomagatake, which makes it one of the highest distilleries in the world. Its water comes from a nearby mountain spring with a bed of white stones.
The nose is complex, with pear and a touch of lemon and smoke. The palate is fruity, honey-sweet and complex, with some oak. The finish is long and lingering, with a little smoke.
