Hakushu 25 Year Old is a Japanese single malt from Yamanashi, bottled at 43% in a 70cl bottle. It is lightly peated and sits at the top of the distillery's age-stated range.
The long maturation has moved the profile past the green fruit of the younger whiskies towards plum, polished wood and caramel. Sage and lavender run through the palate, alongside fine, well-integrated smoke.
On the nose there is plum, cigar humidor and caramel with developed oak. The palate offers crème brûlée and baked pineapple, and the very long finish brings lingering smoke, mature fruit and hinoki cypress.
