Hakushu Distillery Exclusive American Oak & Spanish Oak Peated Malt is a single malt released by the Hakushu Distillery in 2024, here in a 180ml bottle at 48% ABV. It is built on smokiness, made with peated malt.
The whisky matured in American oak casks and ex-Spanish sherry casks. American oak brings vanilla, caramel and spice, while the sherry casks add dark fruit, nutty sweetness and cinnamon.
The nose is gentle smoke like an autumn campfire, with vanilla, caramel and a touch of citrus, then toasted almonds and cinnamon. On the palate smoke leads, alongside vanilla, caramel, plum and raisin, with some spicy warmth.
