Hakushu NAS, also called Distiller's Reserve, is a single malt from the Hakushu distillery in Yamanashi, Japan, in a 70cl bottle at 43%. It is a blend of whiskies made with different levels of fermentation, different stills and different casks.
The blend includes lightly peated malt and whisky matured in white oak casks.
The nose is smoky, with tobacco and cream, fresh herbs, citrus, vanilla and lemon, and a touch of peat. The palate is fruity, sweet and smooth, with lemon and mint giving way to light pepper. The finish is short and dry, with spice, lemon, peach and mint.
