Älv, also called Delicate Vanilla, is a single malt from the High Coast distillery in Sweden, released in the Origins Series. The name is Swedish for river and refers to the Ångermanälven, beside which the distillery stands.
The whisky spent six years in first-fill bourbon casks and was bottled in 2016 at 46%. The outturn was 8,259 bottles.
The nose offers creamy vanilla ice cream, blackberries, salted peanuts and crème brûlée, with fresh nutmeg, dried grass, apricot yoghurt and a little marzipan. The palate is full and fruity, with tropical fruit, vanilla, toffee, black pepper and toasted oak. The finish has cereal flakes and dark fruit sweetness.
