Hillrock Solera Aged Bourbon comes from Hillrock Estate Distillery in New York's Hudson Valley, where it was introduced in October 2012 as the first solera-aged bourbon on the American market. It is bottled at 46.3% ABV.
The distillery marries small-barrel estate bourbon with mature seed bourbon, then finishes the blend in 20-year-old Oloroso sherry casks. The mashbill contains about 37% rye.
The nose shows caramel, vanilla, dried fruit, peach and oak, with a floral note and baking spice. The palate is rich, with brown sugar, toffee, clove, cinnamon, raisin, fig and walnut. The finish is long, with walnut, fig, butterscotch and a little rye spice.
