Hugel Grossi Laüe Riesling 2014 Alsace (75cl, 13.5%)

This is a 2014 Riesling from Hugel in Alsace, made from a selection of the finest plots of the family estate in the Schoenenbourg grand cru. Grossi Laüe means the finest vineyards in Alsace dialect, and is seen as the equivalent of the German Grosses Gewächs or the Burgundian Grand Cru. The grapes are picked by hand and taken to the presses in small tubs, which are filled by gravity. The wines ferment plot by plot in century-old foudres at 12 to 18°C and are racked just once. A classic Riesling with a mineral character and a long, complex aftertaste, it suits fish and seafood dishes.
