Isle of Jura – Elixir 12 Year Old

This is the Isle of Jura Elixir, a 12 year old single malt from the island distillery. It is finished in a combination of American white oak and European sherry casks. The nose is fat and malty, with nuts, malted milk and a touch of ham stock, and the meatiness turns to cocoa when water is added. The palate is dry and tannic, with mint and a waxy note, then tropical fruit, chocolate and coffee, the coffee bitterness balancing a slight sherry sweetness. Crushed almonds, pineapple, citrus, dark toffee and warming ginger run through the whole.
