J. Henry & Sons Small Batch Bourbon is a Wisconsin four-grain bourbon, bottled at 46% ABV in a 750ml bottle. The mashbill is 64% heirloom red corn, 14% Spooner rye, 14% Glacier winter wheat and 8% malted barley.
The spirit is distilled at 45th Parallel Distillery in New Richmond, then aged in a converted dairy barn on the Henry family farm in Dane. Temperatures there are not controlled, so the barrels go through sub-zero winters and humid summers. Each batch is limited to 16 barrels.
The nose brings crème brûlée, vanilla, sweet cornmeal and oak. The palate is creamy and custard-like, with butterscotch, toffee and black pepper, and the finish is medium-long with toffee, dried fruit and cinnamon.
