J. Henry & Sons – Spooner Reserve Rye (75cl, 61.6%)

J. Henry & Sons Spooner Reserve Rye is a cask strength straight rye whiskey from Dane, Wisconsin, bottled at 61.6% in a 750ml bottle. It is non-chill-filtered. The heirloom Spooner rye is grown on the Henry family's own farm, then distilled in copper pot stills and matured on site in charred new American oak barrels. The mashbill is 64% Spooner rye, 14% red heirloom corn, 14% winter wheat and 8% malted barley. The barrels rest in a barn with no climate control. The nose shows intense rye spice, toasted oak, dark caramel and dried stone fruit. The palate brings butterscotch, black pepper and dried cherry. The finish is long, with peppercorn, charred oak and dry cocoa.
