J.P. Wiser's 13 Year Old Japanese Oak is a Canadian whisky from the Wood Series, made at the Hiram Walker & Sons Distillery in Windsor, Ontario, a site with a history going back to 1858. Master Blender Dr. Don Livermore created the series to explore how different woods affect Canadian rye, using experimental casks with Japanese oak inserts.
It is bottled at 40% ABV. The nose is aromatic, with vanilla bean, creamy oak, dried fruits, praline and a hint of nutmeg. The palate brings toasted sugar, salted caramel and cinnamon bark, balanced by black pepper and rye spice. The finish is long and warming, with dried oak and sweet spice.
