Jack Daniel's 1981 Gold Medal is a Tennessee whiskey in a decanter-style bottle with an embossed gold medallion, bottled at 45% (90 proof). It is the seventh and final release in the Gold Medal Series from the Jack Daniel Distillery, a run of commemorative decanters issued between 1996 and 2006.
This edition, released in 2006, marks the Grand Gold Medal with Palm Leaves awarded to Jack Daniel's in Amsterdam in 1981. It is charcoal mellowed, in the Old No. 7 style.
The nose is described as toasted oak, vanilla and caramel, with hints of honey and warm spice. The palate has caramel, butterscotch and light smoke, and the finish is long and warm, with subtle charcoal richness and toasted oak.
