Jack Daniel's Master Distiller Series No. 5 is a Tennessee whiskey honouring Frank Bobo, the fifth Master Distiller at the Jack Daniel Distillery in Lynchburg, who held the role from 1966 to 1988. Released in October 2016, it is the fifth of six bottlings in a series made between 2012 and 2017. Each bottle is numbered and comes in a box bearing Bobo's portrait.
Inside is charcoal mellowed whiskey, filtered through sugar maple charcoal and aged in new American oak, bottled at 86 proof (43%). The nose is light and sweet, with vanilla, caramel, toasted oak and a touch of smoke. The palate is smooth, with banana milkshake, mixed nuts, toffee and creamy vanilla caramel. The finish is sweet, with toasty oak.
