Kilchoman – 16 Year Old (70cl, 50%)

This is a 16 year old single malt from Kilchoman on Islay, and the oldest bottling the distillery has released so far. It is bottled at 50% in a 70cl bottle. The whisky matured in a combination of 21 casks, mostly ex-bourbon with some ex-Oloroso sherry casks. The nose is rich, with creamy citrus sweetness, stewed apples, pears and plums, then a little nutmeg. On the palate it is full-bodied and balanced, with tropical fruit, sweet vanilla, warming spices and smouldering peat smoke. The finish is long, with dried mango, apricot, barbecue smoke and a sweetness of honey.
