Kilchoman – Batch Strength (57%)

Kilchoman Batch Strength is an Islay single malt bottled at 57%. It was matured in a mix of re-charred red wine casks, oloroso sherry casks and bourbon casks, with a little water added after maturation to bring it to that strength. Each release is a separate batch, and the batch number is printed on the back of the bottle. Roughly 65 to 70% of the casks are ex-bourbon, with about 10 to 15% sherry and around 20% re-charred wine casks, so the composition can shift slightly from one batch to the next. It is described as combining Kilchoman's natural peat smoke and citrus character with dark fruit, rich spice and the sweetness of salted caramel.
