This is Lagavulin 12 Year Old from the 2022 Special Release, an Islay single malt bottled at cask strength, 57.3% ABV. It was matured in virgin oak and draws on the distillery's smokiest reserves. The whisky is gold in colour.
The nose is dry and strongly smoky, with charcoal, fragrant peat, fresh sea air and mineral notes. The palate has a smooth, slightly oily texture and starts sweet, then turns to sharp lemon and a sprinkle of sea salt before drying in the middle, with smoke dominant. The finish is long, with waves of peat smoke and spicy, smoky intensity.
