This is a 12 year old Lagavulin from the 2024 Special Releases, issued under the 'What If' theme as part of the Spirited Exchange Second Edition. It was bottled at natural cask strength in a 70cl bottle.
The whisky matured in ex-bourbon casks and in wine casks made from American oak, with refill casks of European oak also used. It comes in an elaborately designed outer box.
The nose is dry and gentle, with clean phenols, smouldering campfire and wood ash, then hints of healing ointment, carbolic soap and sweet rowanberry jelly. On the palate it is creamy and full-bodied, sweet at first, then dry with a pinch of salt and a balanced smokiness. A drop of water brings out more sweetness.
