Lagavulin 12 Year Old is an Islay single malt at 57.3%, in a 70cl bottle. It is drawn from virgin oak and the distillery's smokiest reserves, where rich, peaty casks lead saltiness, spice and smoke over a deep sweetness. It has a gleaming gold colour and a medium body.
The nose opens dry, with strong smoke, charcoal and fragrant peat over fresh sea air and mineral scents, and it stays much the same with water. The palate is smooth and lightly oily, sweet first, then lemony and salty, with smoke in charge. The finish is long, full of peat smoke and spice.
