This is Lagavulin 12 Years Old from the 2023 Diageo Special Releases, an Islay single malt in a 70cl bottle, bottled at a cask strength of 56.4%.
The 2023 edition was finished in Don Julio Añejo tequila casks, a first for this release.
The nose is medicinal and smoky, with carbolic soap, aromatic wood smoke, herbal accents and savoury barbecued meat. On the palate it is strong yet soft and velvety, with a sweet citrus note, a touch of salt and juicy plum leading into Islay smoke. The finish is long, dry, salty and smoky.
