A 16 year old Islay single malt from Lagavulin, in a 70cl bottle at 43% ABV. It was matured for 16 years in oak casks, with a significant influence from sherry-seasoned wood, and is made with Islay peat and double distilled in copper pot stills.
Lagavulin sits in a small bay on Islay's southern coast, and its distilling records date back to 1816.
The nose offers peat smoke, dried seaweed and iodine alongside sweet sherry and vanilla. On the palate are smoky Lapsang Souchong tea, dark chocolate, dried fruits and a warming spice. The finish is long, dry and smoky, with lingering sweetness and a maritime saltiness.
