This is an eight-year-old Lagavulin single malt from Islay, in a 70cl bottle, released to mark the distillery's 200th anniversary. The age is a deliberate choice: when Alfred Barnard visited in 1885, he tasted an eight-year-old whisky and judged it exceptionally fine.
The whisky matured in refill American oak casks, and 20,000 bottles were filled for this limited edition. Lagavulin was founded in 1816, and its spirit is made in pear-shaped stills heated by steam.
