Lagavulin 8 Year Old is an Islay single malt Scotch whisky in a 70cl bottle at 48% ABV. The distillery looks onto Dunyvaig Castle, and this eight-year-old was inspired by Alfred Barnard's visit in the 1880s, when he tried an 'exceptionally fine' eight-year-old from Lagavulin.
It is a big, smoky whisky, and a drop of water brings out its tea-scented smoke and drying, maritime aromas.
The body is light at first and becomes pleasantly oily, with a full-on Lagavulin taste. The finish is clean and long, with minted smoke and warming chocolate.
