Lagavulin 8 Year Old is an Islay single malt, first released in 2016 for the distillery's 200th anniversary. It is bottled at 48% in a 70cl bottle.
It pays tribute to Alfred Barnard, the Victorian whisky writer who praised an 8 year old Lagavulin on his visits in the 1880s. The whisky is matured for eight years in refill American oak casks and shows the distillery's peated style.
The nose is clean smoke, sea air, citrus peel and a little vanilla. The palate is smoky, with lemon zest, pepper and charred oak over light malt sweetness. The finish is long and dry, with smoke and a maritime salinity.
