Edition 24 of the Whisky Sponge series from Decadent Drinks, this is a 13 year old Ledaig from a single refill sherry butt. It was distilled and filled in summer 2007 on the Isle of Mull, then bottled in 2021 at 53% ABV in a 70cl bottle.
The nose has smoked ham, squid ink and cocoa powder with herbal smoke, then barnyard funk, paraffin oil and chopped almonds. Water brings out oyster, seaweed and a saline edge. On the palate, lamp oils and roast ham meet salted lemon, damp peat and sea spray, turning brighter and sweeter with water. The finish is long, with menthol, smoked eucalyptus and chopped herbs.
