Lochlea – Cask Strength Batch 2 (60%)

Lochlea Cask Strength Batch 2 is a Lowlands single malt bottled at 60% ABV. It combines whisky matured in refill bourbon casks and then in Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso sherry casks with whisky matured twice in American and European oak STR barriques. These were shaved, toasted and re-charred, though not heavily charred, so the character of the distillery shows through. The nose is sticky and delicately floral, with syrupy raisins, lavender, toffee apples and lime marmalade, followed by Parma ham, black tea, red grapes and woody spice. The palate is thick and oily, with blackcurrant cough sweets, black pepper, chilli jam, burnt matches, cloves and nutmeg. The finish is long, spicy and full of dark fruit.
