Lochlea – Cask Strength Batch 2 (70cl, 60%)

This is the second batch in Lochlea's yearly cask strength series, a single malt from the family-run Lowland farm distillery. It was bottled straight from the cask at 60% ABV. Batch 2 is a new departure for the distillery. It combines Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez sherry casks with STR wine casks, which are barrels shaved to remove a thin inner layer of wood, then toasted and lightly re-charred. The cask choice is said to underline the fruit, nut and grain aromas that mark Lochlea's style.
