Lochlea Harvest Edition – Second Crop is the second release in the Ayrshire distillery's harvest series, bottled at 46% in a 70cl bottle. Lochlea works from a farm, and the barley is malted, fermented and distilled on site.
The whisky is matured in three kinds of cask: ex-bourbon, STR (shaved, toasted and recharred) and ex-port.
The nose is ripe stone fruit, vanilla and caramel, with plums, raisins and lightly spiced toasted oak. The palate is full, with cherries, plums, cinnamon, ginger, cream and a little dark chocolate. The finish is long and warming, with toasted oak spice, dried fruit and gentle sweetness.
