Lochlea – Overtone (70cl, 52%)

A limited-edition experimental cask release from Lochlea distillery in the Lowlands, made with Glasgow craft brewery Overtone Brewing Co. It comes in a 70cl bottle. Lochlea sent the brewery three bourbon barrels, two STR barriques and an Oloroso sherry butt that had held its Our Barley. Overtone matured its double mash stout in them for six months, and the casks were then refilled with Our Barley for a year. Three were chosen for Lochlea's first stout cask finish. 1,500 bottles were produced, non-chill-filtered, naturally coloured, at 52%. The nose is all butter shortbread, tropical fruit and macadamia nuts. The palate is sweet toffee and toasted barley, and the finish is long and silky with fruit and cereal.
