Lochlea Red Wine Cask is a Lowland single malt in a 70cl bottle, and the first release in the distillery's annual Red Wine Cask series. It is made from barley grown on the estate in Ayrshire.
The whisky was matured first in first-fill bourbon barrels, then finished in Grenache red wine casks. It is bottled at 46% ABV, non-chill-filtered and with no added colouring.
The nose is bright with red berries, delicate floral notes and subtle oak. On the palate, strawberries and cherries sit with creamy vanilla and sweet almonds, with gentle tannins. The finish is medium to long, with toasted oak, sweet cereal and spiced biscuits.
