Lochlea 1st Release is the first single malt from Lochlea Distillery, an independent, family-owned distillery. It was released on 25 January 2022 at 46%, in a 70cl bottle, and 7,000 bottles were filled.
The whisky was matured in first fill bourbon and Pedro Ximenez casks.
The nose combines citrus, malt and green apples with a light dryness from the wood. Bourbon vanilla comes first, followed by warm spice from the Pedro Ximenez casks. On the palate are fresh thyme and apples, with white pepper that warms without taking over. Light vanilla follows, and the whisky closes on spice.
