Lochlea – Smoke Without Fire Ex-Peated & Red Wine Casks (70cl, 46%)

Lochlea Smoke Without Fire is a gently smoky Lowland single malt from the Single Estate Core Range, in a 70cl bottle at 46% ABV. It is bottled in natural colour and is non-chill-filtered. The whisky matures in refill bourbon casks that previously held peated whisky, together with red wine casks. The first bring a soft smoke, while the wine casks support the fruity, floral character. The barley is grown on the distillery's own farm in Ayrshire, where distilling and maturation also take place. The nose has red berries, cherry blossom and lemon peel with soft smoke. The palate brings salty sea smoke, fresh-cut oak and bonfire embers, with light citrus and a touch of sherbet. The finish leaves light charring and soft floral notes.
