Macallan – Carta Nautica 105 Proof US Exclusive (75cl, 52.5%)

This Speyside single malt from Macallan is part of the Carta Nautica collection, bottled at 105 proof (52.5% ABV) in a 75cl bottle for the US market. It combines sherry-seasoned American oak casks with casks that once held bourbon, including some that finished their maturation in sherry-seasoned American oak. The collection takes its name from the Spanish for nautical chart, a reference to the oak's passage across the Atlantic from North America, some of it by way of Jerez de la Frontera in Spain. The nose is sweet with nougat, vanilla, honeycomb and almond brittle, then lemon drizzle cake. The palate brings toffee, golden syrup, poached pear, green apple and candied orange, ending on malt biscuit, citrus peel and gentle oak spice.
