Mackmyra – Svensk Ek (70cl, 46.1%)

Mackmyra Svensk Ek is a Swedish single malt built from four cask types: 68% ex-bourbon casks of 200 litres, 12% new 128-litre Oloroso casks, 10% new 100-litre Swedish oak casks and 10% new 128-litre American oak casks. It is bottled at 46.1% in a 70cl bottle, without colouring or chill-filtering. The Swedish oak share carries the distillery's focus on local ingredients into the choice of casks. Overall the character is fruity and sweet, with ginger, pepper and pronounced oak spice. The nose combines pear, apricot and fresh citrus with vanilla fudge and honey. On the palate come pear, citrus and dried ginger, then caramel, sweet almond and slightly bready notes beside spicy oak. The finish is long and warming, with sweet milk chocolate set against strong oak, pepper and ginger.
