Maraska Slivovitz 10 Year Old is a Croatian plum brandy from the Dalmatian distillery Maraska, whose distilling tradition goes back to 1821 in Zadar. It starts with ripe blue plums grown along the Adriatic coast, which are double distilled and then rested for ten years in 500-litre wooden barrels. It is bottled at 40% in a 75cl bottle.
The nose is ripe dark plum with dried prune, apricot and soft vanilla, and a little almond and anise-like herb. The palate is smooth and fruit-led, broadening to dried fig, raisin and honeyed warmth, with black pepper and cinnamon from the oak. The finish is long and warming, with prune and gentle oak tannin.
