Tignanello is a Toscana IGT red from Marchesi Antinori, widely seen as the first Super Tuscan. It began in 1970 as a Chianti Classico Riserva aged in barriques, and by 1971 Cabernet Sauvignon had joined Sangiovese in the blend. Its classification as a table wine helped lead to the creation of the IGT designation.
The 2023 opens with ripe cherry, pomegranate and orange, moving to hibiscus, violets, cocoa, pencil lead, white pepper and cranberry. The palate is precise and pure, with a juicy mid-palate and silky tannins. The long, savoury finish brings blood orange and roasted hazelnut.
