This is a 5 year old single malt from the Mars Komagatake distillery in Japan, distilled in 2019 and bottled in 2024 at 59.8% ABV. It was matured in a sherry hogshead and has an amber colour.
The distillery stands at 798 metres in the Japanese Alps, at Miyada-mura. It was founded in 1985, mothballed in 1992 and began distilling again in 2011.
The nose combines baked apple, raisin bread, tiramisu and candied lemon with cardamom, cinnamon, cocoa and pineapple. The palate is peppery at first, then roasted and nutty, with coffee, cashew, raisin and salted butter caramel. Orange and grapefruit lift the finish.
