A single cask Mars Komagatake from the Mars Shinshu distillery, distilled in 2012 and matured in an American white oak hogshead. It was released for the Tokyo Whisky Festival 2019 and bottled at 60% ABV in a 70cl bottle.
At seven and a half years old, it was made from malt peated to 50ppm, though the malty backbone makes it taste closer to 10ppm, and the nose shows little peat.
The nose is cinnamon on oranges with malty, leathery peat, spices and wet moss. The palate brings bitter chocolate, liquorice and vanilla maltiness, and the finish is lasting oak with light smoke, dark chocolate and butterscotch.
