This is a heavily peated Japanese single malt from Mars, distilled in 2014 and bottled in 2017 at the Shinshu distillery. It matured in a single American white oak cask, number 1855, and was released as a Singapore exclusive. It is one of 578 bottles, at 59.8% ABV in a 70cl bottle.
The nose shows a moderate level of peat and wood smoke, with toast and vanilla, and the peat and smoke recede with time. The palate recalls whole chestnuts in water, Chinese medicine and pickled vegetables, with a sweetness at the back that grows. The finish is short to medium.
