This is a single cask whisky from the Mars Shinshu distillery of Hombo Shuzo, which stands at the foot of Mount Kisokomagatake in Nagano Prefecture. It was distilled in 2017, matured for six years and bottled in 2023 at 57% ABV.
The whisky came from a single sherry hogshead, cask 2122. After its first maturation at Shinshu, the cask was moved to the Yakushima Aging Cellar on Yakushima island.
The nose combines malty, waxy notes with preserved pear and pineapple, plus star anise, clove and nutmeg. The palate opens fruity, with greengages, apples and pears and a soft honey sweetness, then moves through vanilla, saffron and ginger. The finish is soft and lasting, with tannins, peach, currants, vanilla and gingerbread.
