A 2024 Komagatake single malt from MARS with an IPA cask finish. It matured first in ex-bourbon casks, then in casks that held India Pale Ale from Minami Shinshu Beer, whose brewery stands next to the distillery in Nagano Prefecture. Only unpeated malt went into this edition. It was bottled at 52% in a 70cl bottle, limited to 2,730 bottles, non-chill-filtered and with no added colour.
The nose shows grapefruit peel and lime beside fresh, floral, herbal hops, with sweet malt and light oak. On the palate, grapefruit and lime meet sweet malt and vanilla, with hops and herbs adding a slightly bitter edge. The finish is clear and bittersweet, with a refreshing dryness, citrus, hops and a fine bitterness.
