Mars Maltage Cosmo Blended Malt Whisky Wine Cask Finish 2023 (70cl, 43%)

This is a blended malt from Mars Whisky, made by marrying Japanese and Scottish malt whiskies, with no grain whisky in the mix. The 2023 edition was made in a small quantity and finished in red wine casks, which add fruity and spicy notes to the soft, round character of Mars Maltage Cosmo. A light ruby tinge shows in the glass, and there is a subtle touch of smoke. It is bottled at 43%, without chill-filtering or added colour. The name Cosmo comes from Mount Kosumo in the Japanese Central Alps. The nose combines sweet raisins and prunes with orange, roasted walnuts and oak spice. On the palate come juicy grapes, plums and dates with cane sugar sweetness, and the medium finish stays fruity with gentle tannins.
