Mars The Lucky Cat May & Hana is a blended whisky from the Mars Shinshu Distillery in Nagano Prefecture, in the Japanese Alps. It is made from a selection of malt and grain whiskies.
The Lucky Cat series is named for the cats that have lived at the distillery, and each release takes the name of one of them. The distillery was established in 1985 by Hombo Shuzo, a shochu producer founded in 1872.
The nose has raw caramel, milk chocolate and vanilla ice cream, with raspberry and tangerine. The palate brings dried mandarin, wine grapes, bittersweet chocolate and fruit gums. The finish is oak sweetness with a lingering tannic bitterness and mild grain sweetness.
