Masahiro Kaijin is a Japanese blended whisky from the Masahiro Distillery in Okinawa, in a 70cl bottle at 40% ABV. The distillery was established in 1883 by Shobun Higa and is also known for Awamori, a local rice spirit.
Kaijin means 'Seaman' or 'Sea God'. The blend combines grain and vintage malt whiskies and is meant to reflect the ocean around the Ryukyu Islands.
It is bright golden in colour. The nose offers citrus, vanilla and tropical fruit such as pineapple and papaya, with fresh-cut grass and a touch of sea minerality. The palate is light-bodied, with oak, butterscotch, ginger and black pepper, and the finish is long and creamy.
